How helping works

Calls ring one helper at a time, so you are never competing for a call.

  1. Sign up

Create an account with your first name, email and a password.

  2. Go available

Flip the switch when you have a few minutes. Keep the app open and calls ring for you.

  3. Answer and help

Talk them through it one step at a time. Turn on video for both of you if seeing their screen would help.

  4. Get rated

Callers give you one to five stars. Your calls and ratings move you up the leaderboard.

Your helper account

One account for taking calls, checking your stats and climbing the leaderboard.

You'll be asked to log in first if you aren't already.

The helper code

Older adults are the top target of tech-support scams. These rules keep every call safe, and breaking them gets you removed.

Never ask for private information

No passwords, codes, bank or card details, Social Security or Medicare numbers. If a caller starts to share one, stop them.

Never ask for money

No payments, gifts, gift cards or cryptocurrency, for any reason.

Never take control of their device

No remote-access apps. You explain the steps, and the caller taps.

Never try to find out who they are

You won't see their name or number, and you must not ask. Don't record, screenshot or post about calls.

Help them spot scams

If a caller mentions a suspicious message or request for money, help them recognize it and report any concerns to us.

Questions

Will the caller know who I am?

They see your first name during the call, and that's all.

Will I know who is calling?

No. Helpers never see a caller's name, phone number or any other details.

Are calls recorded?

Yes, every call's audio is recorded for safety. Only Call A Grandkid managers can listen, and recordings are deleted after 90 days unless there is a safety report. See our Privacy Policy.

What if a call drops?

If the caller didn't hang up, you get a Call back button for 10 minutes. If they hung up on purpose, no callback is offered.

How much time do I have to give?

As much or as little as you like. You only get calls while your switch is on.
